In 2004, ex-con Charles Manning, 61, was infected in prison by a flesh-eating bacteria that ate away at his groin. Prison doctors first thought he was just having an allergic reaction. He sued and the Washington Department of Corrections settled by giving him $300,000. From the Associated Press: By the time he was taken to a hospital, Manning had an internal abscess that required doctors to remove several pounds of flesh from his pelvic region.
