User Guide - How to Use NewsCred

Too busy to read? Take our ninety second tour!

How is NewsCred organized? What's the Difference Between the First and Second Columns?

Simple: mainstream news sources on the far left column, blogs in the middle column, and your personalization options on the right hand side.

How do I filter on my news sources?

Customizing your digital newspaper is deliciously simple.

Step 1. Chose a category (Top Stories, World, U.S. etc)

Step 2. In the right hand column, you'll see the logos of both mainstream news sources (top) and established blogs (bottom).

Step 3. Click on the mainstream news sources you want, uncheck the sources you don't.

Step 4. Click 'Update Newspaper' and watch the page magically update.

Step 5. Do the same for your preferred blog sources. Click 'Update Newspaper' below the blog source icons, and you're done!

How do I save my personalization settings?

Its automatic. As long as you're logged in, NewsCred will magically remember your preferences. Going forward, you'll get your personalized newspaper every time you log in.

Can I personalize my sources for each category?

Of course! You can have a different mix of sources saved for each category (World, Business, Europe etc), and this happens automatically. Simply go into each category and chose your sources, and NewsCred will remember.

How do I submit links?

You don't. At NewsCred, there is no link submission free-for-all. Simply e-mail us at sources@newscred.com if you think we're missing a great news source. Every month, we'll take the 25 most requested sources and add them to our list.

How do I go to the article directly?

When you click on an article title, you go to the profile page for that article. If you want to bypass the Article Profile page, you can certainly do so by clicking on 'Read Full Story' link in the list of articles (on the main page) rather than the article title.

How do I vote?

Click on an article title to go to the article profile page. Then click the 'Credit' or 'Discredit' button based on your opinion of the credibility of the article.

What are the pictures across the top of each page

Across the top of each page, you can see the most important topics in the news for that day. Topics can be events, people, organizations, companies or places in the news.

How do I find more topics?

At the top of the page, you can search for millions of articles and topics on NewsCred. When you search for a topic, we'll also return back a list of topics that are connected to your search term using semantic technology. Clicking on an article title will also display all the topics mentioned in that article.

What is a topic page?

Topic pages are automatically generated profile pages for individual topics. Each page contains the latest articles, pictures, videos and Twitter buzz on that topic. We also tell you which journalists and news sources are talking about this topic.

How do I edit my profile?

Click on the 'Edit Profile' link at the top right corner of any page.
